The
twin Mansion's, designed by local and well-known architect of the day,
Charles Crosby Miller, were built in 1870. They were owned by cousins
and business partners D.A. and Stillman Brown, who made their fortunes
in the Toledo Stockyards. The families enjoyed these homes for more
than half a century. The stately Second Empire homes stood side by side
along the Maumee River, and presented an attractive appearance to area
residents and traveller's on passing steamboats and rail cars. The homes
were constructed of brick and stone with majestic towers and elegant
mansard roofs which were popular choices of home design during the period.
Unfortunately, the homes no longer exist due to
fire damage and neglect, and we're both demolished by the late 1960's.
